When Naperville Was a ‘Sundown Town’ (LWV Naperville)

Sundown laws, which restricted or forbade the presence of Black Americans in certain towns after sunset, were not uncommon before the Civil Rights era. For a time, Naperville also had a sundown policy. LWV Naperville's Ideas Forum will focus on Naperville's history of sunset laws, as researched by a group of North Central College students mentored by associate professor of criminology Raleigh Blasdell.

See and hear Girl Scouts Founder Juliette Gordon Low as adapted and performed by Betsy Means of Women Lore. Come early and join us for coffee and conversation at 9:30am before the event begins at 10am. Juliet Gordon Low (1860-1927 was an enthusiastic organizer and Fundraiser who led the formation of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 1912. By the time of her death, the Girl Scout had become a successful national organization.
