On February 4, join attorney Katie Garvey from the Environmental Law and Policy Center and Elle Gadient, Delaware County Farmer & Iowa Farmers Union Beginning Farmer Representative, for a discussion of a federal lawsuit aimed at abolishing Swampbuster provisions that protect wetlands on agricultural lands. This program, hosted by LWV Upper Mississippi River River Region, will look at this last bulwark of protection remaining after the Sackett decision gutted wetland protections in the Clean Water Act. Sundown laws, which restricted or forbade the presence of Black Americans in certain towns after sunset, were not uncommon before the Civil Rights era. For a time, Naperville also had a sundown policy. LWV Naperville's Ideas Forum will focus on Naperville's history of sunset laws, as researched by a group of North Central College students mentored by associate professor of criminology Raleigh Blasdell. |
