DESCRIPTION:In 2018\, the League of Women Voters of Illinois changed its policy to permit “Empty Chair” Candidate Forums for State Legislative\, County\, Township and Local Offices. \nThis month\, the state League reverted to previous policy and effective immediately\, in the context of a primary\, at least two opposing candidates for the same political party nomination must agree to participate or the forum will not take place. \nAs a local League we are bound to comply to this guidance. \nIt is with great regret that we cancel the Candidate Forum scheduled for February 4. \n\nThe LWV of the Elgin Area Rutland-Dundee Townships Committee cordially invites you to participate in a moderated Candidate Forum for the candidates running in the March General Primary Election. \nDuring the first half-hour\, voters will have the opportunity to talk informally to the candidates in a “Meet and Greet” before the Forum begins promptly at 7 pm. \nCandidates for the following contested races have been invited to participate: \n6th Congressional*\nRepublican Primary: \n\nJeanne Ives\nGordon (Jay) Kinzler\n\nDemocratic Primary: Uncontested (Sean Casten will be on November ballot) \nIllinois Senate District 22\nDemocratic Primary: \n\nCristina Castro\nRae Yawer\n\nRepublican Primary: Uncontested \nIllinois Legislative District 66:\nDemocratic Primary: \n\nSuzanne Ness\nJim Malone\n\nRepublican Primary: \n\nAllen Skillicorn\nCarolyn Schofield\n\n*  Candidates will be allowed to participate even if their opponents do not attend except for federal offices\, which must have at least two candidates present to participate. \nThe Primary Election is March 17th; Early Voting begins March 3rd \nCandidate Forum – Rules & Guidelines\nThe League of Women Voters is a non-partisan\, issue-oriented political organization that holds voter education as a primary mission. DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area\, in partnership with the YWCA Elgin\, will present a non-partisan 1-day workshop on “How to Run for Office ~ A Woman’s Focus”. \nAccording to the New York Daily News\, January 29\, 2018: \n“This year is gearing up to easily eclipse 1992 as the “Year of the Woman” in American government with 526 female challengers and incumbents … setting their sights on the November midterm elections.” \nRunning for local office or helping manage a campaign is an opportunity to become involved and make a difference in your community. If you have even considered running for office\, a small investment of your time now can empower you with the knowledge needed to make the leap into politics. \nOn Saturday\, September 15\, 2018\, from 9 am to 3 pm at the YWCA Elgin you will get a chance to learn about what it takes to run for local office. We begin our session by rating yourself as a potential candidate\, what you need to know about circulating nomination petitions\, organizing the campaign\, messaging\, political ethics and finding informational resources. \nThis workshop is non-partisan and open to all.
