Join us for dinner and expect a robust conversation on current events. In July we heard about national planning for Census 2020. In August, we’ll hear about local efforts and learn about opportunities for our local League to get involved. Are you interested in helping these efforts? Then you won’t want to miss this discussion!
Some background: For decades LWVUS has had encouraged state and local Leagues to encourage full participation in the census, under both the Voting Rights position and the Election Process: Apportionment position. An undercount in Illinois will cost the state hundreds of millions in federal funding. It could cost the state an extra congressional district and it will affect redistricting with skewed districts if various groups of residents don’t get counted.
After we hear the summary of local efforts, we will spend the rest of the evening breaking bread and continuing the discussion.
This event is free. Won’t you consider purchasing dinner from our host location?
Please reply to this message if you plan to attend.
FYI – we will likely be on the 2nd floor and there is NO elevator.
