“There were 251,202 new voters registered from November 2015 to present, contributing to a total of 7.8 million active registered voters in the state. This means that approximately 76% of eligible Illinois residents are active registered voters, a 2% increase from late 2015. Of the 251,202 new registered voters from November 2015 to June 2016, 81%, or 203,243 are from Chicago, Suburban Cook, and the Collar Counties. Many have said that the suburbs surrounding Chicago will be some of the most important swing areas in the November General Election, and this increase in registration may have an impact on state and local races. Additionally, the 99,259 new registered voters in Chicago may have an impact on statewide races, such as the Illinois U.S. Senate and State Comptroller’s races.”
