The principles that guide our organization…
The goal of the League of Women Voters is to empower citizens to shape better communities worldwide.
The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area (LWVEA) is committed to promoting active and informed participation in government. Our nonpartisan policy is rooted in our mission to empower citizens and foster a robust democracy. Here are the key components of our policy:
- Nonpartisanship: As an organization, we do not support or oppose any political party or candidate. We are committed to providing unbiased information to voters.
- Community Engagement: Our work focuses on engaging the community through voter registration drives, candidate forums, and educational initiatives. We believe that an informed citizenry is crucial to a functioning democracy.
- Voter Education: We host nonpartisan candidate forums during each election season, offering citizens the opportunity to hear directly from candidates about their positions on important issues.
- Voter Service: We strive to ensure all eligible citizens have access to the voting process. This includes working tirelessly throughout the community to register voters and emphasize the importance of casting a vote.
- Inclusivity: Our policy aims to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, gender, age, race, or socioeconomic status. We expand on this further in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy.
With these guiding principles, the LWV-EA continues to uphold its commitment to fostering an informed and active citizenry.
