Name: Kenneth J. Schaffer
Position for which you are a candidate: Dundee Township Trustee
Why are you seeking this position?
I seek re-election as Trustee for Dundee Township to continue serving township residents. My interest is to continue bringing accountability, fiscal responsibility and appropriate intergovernmental cooperation to responsibly fulfill the obligations and benefits of existing and expanding operations for all Dundee Township residents.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
As Trustee of Dundee Township for ~24 years I have experienced (along with Township residents) significant changes in various programs under the umbrella of the Township. Open Space, changes in Cemetery operations, the Covid-19 Pandemic and working with the established Dundee Township Mental Health Board to name a few. As a current Township Board member, I wish to continue representing residents and interests of the Township.
My graduate degree in Master’s in Business Administration from Benedictine University provides a strong foundation and background for dealing with the ongoing financial and resource challenges presented to the Township.
As a healthcare provider I am very aware of the many changes in the Illinois healthcare environment. I understand the positive impact recent Illinois mandates implemented that improve insurance coverage for needed mental health services. This will likely reduce some of the unmet mental needs that otherwise would be covered by the Township 708 Mental Health Board to those approved Mental Health providers delivering needed services in the area. While the 708 Mental Health Board operates independently of the Dundee Township Board, this State mandate will certainly help with their mission of providing needed mental health services.
As an elected trustee I represent the interests of Dundee Township residents including the planning and approval of annual budgets and most ongoing operations and hope to continue doing the same
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
Educating residents on Township services is my highest priority if elected. Township taxes are
