Name: Sarah Brittin
Position for which you are a candidate: East Dundee Village President
Why are you seeking this position?
I am seeking the position of Village President because I believe in the importance of strong, collaborative leadership that puts community engagement and transparency at the forefront. Over the past four years as a Village Trustee, I have worked to ensure that residents have a clear window into the board’s decision-making process and that their voices are heard in shaping the future of East Dundee. I want to continue fostering an open and productive dialogue between the village board, staff, and the community.
Our village has made great strides in financial stability, infrastructure planning, and economic development, but there is still work to do. From maintaining a responsible budget to tackling critical infrastructure projects, we need leadership that remains committed to balancing growth with preserving the character of East Dundee. I want to build on our progress, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs of residents while keeping our village financially strong, vibrant, and welcoming for years to come.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
My experience as a Village Trustee over the past four years has given me valuable insight into how our local government functions, from budget planning and infrastructure projects to community development and our vibrant downtown events. I’ve worked closely with fellow trustees, village staff, and residents to tackle challenges, develop solutions, and implement policies that serve our community’s best interests.
During my time in office, I’ve prioritized community engagement, ensuring that residents have access to information and feel heard in local decision-making. Leadership isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about listening, problem-solving, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
Beyond public service, my professional background in project and people management has equipped me with the skills necessary to lead effectively. Managing teams and overseeing complex projects has taught me the importance of collaboration, strategic planning, and problem-solving—skills that directly translate to governing a village. I know how to balance competing priorities, build consensus, and ensure that initiatives are executed efficiently.
My combination of public service, management expertise, and commitment to transparency makes me well-qualified to serve as Village President and continue working toward a stronger East Dundee.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
If elected, my highest priority will be maintaining a transparent, solutions-oriented government that balances short-term needs with long-term sustainability. That means strengthening communication between the village and residents, ensuring decisions are made openly and with public input. It also means embracing growth opportunities while preserving the small-town charm and character that make East Dundee so special.
Infrastructure remains a key focus. The lead service line replacement project, which begins this year, is a critical investment in public health and safety. We must also continue addressing flood mitigation, road improvements, and responsible development to ensure our village remains a great place to live and work. At the same time, we need to support our thriving downtown by fostering business growth and maintaining the events and attractions that bring people together and make East Dundee a destination.
Financial stability remains at the core of all decisions. Our strong credit rating and balanced budget provide us with opportunities to invest in necessary projects while remaining fiscally responsible. Thoughtful leadership means prioritizing essential improvements while being mindful of economic uncertainties. By focusing on infrastructure, financial health, and preserving the unique spirit of East Dundee, we can ensure our village continues to grow and thrive.
