Name: Mark Bialek
Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin Township Trustee
Why are you seeking this position?
As a person who is fortunate enough to connect with both community leaders and citizens of the community every day as the host of a local morning radio show, I feel like I am able to hear from all sides of the issues and challenges that our Township faces. My show focuses on community news, issues, and events, and through it I’ve been able to form relationships with leaders whom I interview and interact with regularly, and with my listeners, who are just everyday people trying to make a living and raise a family within Elgin, the Elgin Township, and the Fox River Valley. For these reasons, I feel like I’m capable of representing the Elgin Township in a well-rounded manner and help a Township board make decisions that are in the best interest of the majority of our local population.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I think one primary reason that I am now well qualified for the position is that I’ve been serving the community in this role for the past four years and I now have a good understanding of the functions of the Elgin Township and the decisions and challenges that board members face in our monthly meetings. I have become very familiar with the various Senior, Veterans, and Social Service organizations that operate within our area, and with the needs in the community that they address. I also feel like I’ve been blessed with good leadership skills, good listening skills, good communications skills, and a sponge of a mind that absorbs all information provided to me before forming an opinion or making a decision. Finally, I’ve traveled quite often in my lifetime, and I’ve lived in a number of places, which has helped me develop a diversity in thinking and not a tunnel vision of how life should be lived.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
As a trustee, I don’t pretend that I can enter office and make fulfill a lot of “pie in the sky” promises. I just feel like I’ve been a reliable, everyday, average person who appreciates and values hard workers who want to make a fair wage, support their families, and try to live the American dream. The past four years have brought on more and more financial challenges to an increasing number of Elgin Township residents. As a result, I have done my part to do whatever possible at board meetings to respect that by voting any way I can so that nothing else is added to our current taxpayer’s plate. I take pride in making my own decisions on votes at board meetings, and not just rubber stamping items on the agenda so that the board can look unified. During my time in office, I’ve worked hard to put together a local annual festival which bonds our First Responders with our local community, which I hope to continue to do. I have also volunteered with local Senior events and needs, like food box delivery, which I will continue to do. Finally, with a great portion of the city of Elgin falling within the boundary of Elgin Township, I would like to help the Elgin Township strengthen it’s relationship with the City of Elgin, assisting in the continued efforts to alleviate homelessness and assisting in the continued development of Downtown Elgin.
I will participate in the candidate meet & greet:
