Name: Lois Swatscheno
Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin Township Clerk
Why are you seeking this position?
I’m seeking this position because I believe it is important to give back to my community. I retired 10 years ago and my plans had included many volunteering opportunities. While I still volunteer with some non-profit organizations, with the change in the political climate I decided to focus my energies on civic issues. I want our township to flourish with opportunities for all of our residents.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I worked for forty years as a telecommunications engineer. Fifteen of those years I managed a team of eight engineers and managed several multi-million dollar projects. The last two years I reported directly to the vice president of IT infrastructure and was responsible for managing and reporting on a $24 million dollar expense budget for the organization. This required working closely with the cost center directors and managers and included consulting on their projects to ensure they stayed within budget- both capital and expense.
I am a founding member of the Kane County Democratic Women of Illinois and have served as recording secretary and am currently as the group’s treasurer.
I am also an active member of the League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area, a non-partisan organization, and serve on their board with responsibilities that include voter registration.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
My highest priority if elected is providing transparency to the residents of the township governing activities. This will include recording the township meetings and posting for the public who are unable to attend in person or can view the meeting live streamed. I also intend to support the board members by assisting with the agenda and financial packets that are presented to the trustees prior to the meeting. I would assist in publishing the financial statements to all the residents to allow them to stay informed on the township spending.
I will participate in the candidate meet & greet:
