Name: Judge Sandra Parga

Position for which you are a candidate: Judge of the Circuit Court 16th Judicial Circuit 4th Subcircuit

Why are you seeking this position?

Circuit court judges are responsible for shaping the policies, goals, and culture of our courtrooms. I am interested in continuing my work to serve the citizens of Kane County better in our judicial system as a circuit court judge, assuring that the work of our courts both serves and protects our community.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

As an associate judge since 2017, I have served in several divisions. I’m presently serving in juvenile justice court assuring the protection of both the community and accused minors. I was appointed by the Supreme Court as Co-Chair of the Language Access division for Illinois. I serve on the teaching faculty instructing new judges and served as co-chair of the New Judge Orientation group training new judges as they transition from the bar to the bench. Recently, at the biennial educational conference for judges, I was appointed by the Supreme Court of Illinois to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Judicial College. I also serve on the board of the Illinois Judges Association. In Kane County, I helped revamp our interpretation system in Kane County so that we only use certified and registered interpreters and the costs are fully reimbursed by the State. I was the principle author of the zoom manual which I was assigned to create during the pandemic, it was later adopted state wide, and is still in use.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

My priorities will be to ensure that we continue to provide meaningful access to justice to the litigants in our courtrooms by continuing to train judges to speak plainly so people understand what happened with their cases and feel heard by the judges. I will continue to work on accessibility to justice through language and sign language services. I will continue to work to bring services and collaborate with service providers to ensure the families and children can access those services when ordered by the courts. I am committed to protecting our communities as well as the rights of all litigants.

I will participate in the candidate meet & greet:
