Name: Laurie Parman
Position for which you are a candidate: Illinois Representative District 66
Why are you seeking this position?
I believe that Illinois is compromised in several ways. 165,000 people left Illinois in 2023. They are moving to states with lower taxes, better educational results, and better standards of living. I have 11 grandchildren and I would like them to live in a better Illinois than exists right now. I believe I have the skills and education to make a significant impact toward that goal.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science, a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I am a 30 year retired teacher. I taught literacy for 19 of those years. My students performed generally higher than their peers. It didn’t make a difference whether they were gifted and high achieving or if they entered 5th grade reading at Kindergarten level, they made enough progress to leave 5th grade at grade level, while gifted students and high achievers exited beyond grade level.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
Education
Cost of Living
Public Safety
Improving access to people with mental health issues
