Name: Laurie Parman
Position for which you are a candidate: School District U-300 Board
Why are you seeking this position?
As a former District 300 teacher, and a Doctor of Education, I believe that I am well suited to address the critical issues facing District 300.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I taught in District 300 for 22 years. During that time I taught literacy and history to 5th grade students and then completed my career before retiring in 2021 as a Family and Consumer Science teacher. During that time, I earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I served as an interim assistant principal and summer school administrator 3 times. I was Literacy Leader for 15 fifth grade teachers. I served on many district committees. Among those are 2 Boundary Change committees and the committee to align the Common Core Literacy standards.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
My highest priorities will be re-shifting the focus of District 300 back to the academic mission of the district. The students of District 300 have not been served well, as only 25% of students can read and write and compute at grade level.
Will you be attending the Candidate Night? Yes
