Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin City Council

 

Why are you seeking this position?

I am committed to ensuring that Elgin remains a great place to live, work, play, do business and raise a family.  During my 12 years serving on the Elgin City Council, I have actively supported policies to maintain a safe, affordable and thriving community with a high quality of life, excellent city services and a sustainable future.  I am running for my 4th term on the Elgin City Council because I believe that Elgin is a good community that is on the cusp of being great.   I am an experienced, intentional and inclusive leader that is not afraid to think outside of the box or challenge the status quo when needed.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I am passionate about Elgin and have been actively involved in our community for many years.  In addition to having the privilege of serving on the Elgin City Council since 2011, I am currently the City Council liaison to the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission.   I was an Ex-Officio Member of the Elgin Community Task Force on Policing and served on the Steering Committee of the Elgin COVID Response Fund.  My background includes a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in public administration/urban management from Northern Illinois University.  I have over 16 years of management level experience in local government management, including over nine years with the City of Elgin.  I believe my background gives me a unique and valuable perspective as a leader in our community.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

My main priorities are:

  1. Making Elgin a vibrant destination
  2. Maintaining high quality city services & infrastructure
  3. Ensuring fiscal accountability & investing in sustainable practices
  4. Advocating for fair and equitable community policing
  5. Maintaining safe & livable neighborhoods
