Name: Ron Hain

Position for which you are a candidate: Kane County Sheriff

Why are you seeking this position?

As Sheriff, we dropped our recidivism from a four year average of 49% to 18% ending in 2021. We cut the opioid overdose deaths of the formerly incarcerated by 89% each year. Through our new jail programming we reduced jail violence by 35% and officer workmen’s comp claims by 40%. We also returned the county’s electronic monitoring program at no extra cost to taxpayers and by diverting people from custody and the justice system, we have saved our citizens over $5M over the last four years. For our law enforcement officers, while bringing crime down by 16%, we implemented a training program that places our officers and deputies through stress-induced and de-escalation training every month, which is far ahead of the curve. Our deputies are better funded, policied, and trained than ever before, while coming in under budget every single year. We were also able to implement our new radio system at no cost to Kane tax payers and created our body camera program before it was mandated by state law.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have 28 years of law enforcement experience, 24 as a sworn deputy and have served in varying areas of the Sheriff’s Office and in leadership positions. I have developed an outstanding relationship with our county board and other elected officials in Kane. This networking has helped us become a premier law enforcement agency in the nation. Having sound leadership experience is essential for this position and my work is echoed by 88% of our police union endorsing me, along with the three surrounding, sitting Sheriffs in DuPage, Kendall, and DeKalb counties.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

To continue our current mission and complete additional initiatives that are in progress, to include: professional accreditation of our agency, complete the PREA compliance process for our corrections center, implement our planning for the SAFE-T Act alongside of our justice partners, complete the creation of a county-supported affordable residential addiction center in Kane, and maintain the fiscal success we have demonstrated by coming in under budget every year, while fund sharing with other divisions and offices of the county.
