Name: CHRIS KIOUS

Position for which you are a candidate: Kane County Board District 23

Why are you seeking this position?

I have the interest and the energy to devote to being a fully engaged and informed board member. I have the desire to work with fellow board members, staff, municipal partners and other cooperating agencies to create the best, healthiest Kane County possible.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

Most importantly, I have completed what I consider to be a relatively successful 4-year term as the Commissioner for District 23 and a 2-year term as Forest Preserve President. During those 4 years, I have attended nearly all regular meetings for the County so that I could better understand the County’s problems and make informed votes. I have also attended numerous Village and Township meetings to inform and be informed of the issues that county and cooperating agencies have in common. I have been part of a bi-partisan team that has, among other things, successfully built a multi-use coroner’s office and safety building, begun the installation of a solar field that will save the County at least $5M, recouped $17.5M to reduce or remove the toll on the Long Meadow Parkway and initiated a Green Building Policy to ensure that future County installations meet the highest energy standards possible. In the past, I have served roles in academic research, sales, service and manufacturing. I have been a small business owner as well as the employee of a small business. I have AA, BS and MSc degrees and a Certification in Project Management. Throughout my career, I have travelled around the world to a variety of jobs providing project management experience and have volunteered with several service organizations to improve the communities in which I have lived through the Lions and Rotary clubs. I have been active in politics as a volunteer, candidate and an office holder for the past 15 years.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

I believe it will be most important to work cooperatively with other board members and staff as we establish a balanced budget so that we can stabilize the County’s work force, improve productivity and make sure that the County provides both the services that are mandated by the State and the quality of life that residents of Kane County have come to expect.

Should I be appointed as Chairman of the Administration Committee once again, I would like want to continue to improve the efficiency of the building management department to save money on energy, improve worker productivity and job satisfaction.

As a forest preserve board member (and potentially president again) I would like to continue to aggressively pursue the acquisition of high-quality sites throughout the County, actively transition to our basic mission as a preserve, improve our worker to acre ratio to make sure we maintain the quality of our services and prepare the organization for the future.
