Name: Anna Moeller
Position for which you are a candidate: Illinois Representative District 43
Why are you seeking this position?
We have made positive strides in our state, especially over the past year, in passing legislation and reforms that will have a meaningful impact on our community and state, including:
-Electing a new Speaker of the House for the first time in decades and enacting term limits for legislative leaders and comprehensive ethics legislation;
-Passing a balanced budget that provides inflation relief for everyone and invests in education, human services, public safety, access to affordable healthcare and other vital services and gets our finances back on track by paying down debt and creating a rainy-day fund;
-Protecting women’s reproductive rights, making Illinois a 100% pro-choice state;
-Policies that increase wages for workers and protect their right to negotiate for fair benefits, wages and working conditions.
I am running for re-election so I can continue to be the voice of the 43rd District in the Illinois House – and hold violent gun offenders accountable, ensure our neighborhood schools have the resources to thrive, support for our small businesses and to address COVID recovery.
As we prepare for the election, I am thankful for the strong support I have received from the community.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
Since taking office, I have worked to find common ground with legislators on both sides of the aisle on the issues that affect the quality of life for residents in my district and throughout Illinois. I have fought for equal pay for equal work, good government reforms to eliminate pensions for part-time appointed officials, legislative leadership term limits, ethics reform, combating climate change and the creation of clean-energy jobs, increasing the minimum wage, a balanced state budget, increased school funding and a more equitable school funding formula, common sense gun control measures, protecting access to women’s reproductive healthcare, ensuring that elderly residents have access to in-home services and nursing home reforms so that our seniors can live with dignity.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
My top priority continues to be staying accessible to the constituents I represent and ensuring that their voices are heard in Springfield. It is a pleasure to meet constituents as I walk door to door throughout the community, hold regular town hall meetings, host informational events for residents like my annual senior fair and advisory committees and monthly coffee stops.
Partisanship and political polarization are very high both in general society and within state government. It is important that we transcend politics and make concerted efforts to work in a bipartisan fashion to fix the problems facing our state. If re-elected in November, I am committed to doing that.
