Name: Mohammad ‘Mo’ Iqbal

Position for which you are a candidate: Kane County Board District 19

Why are you seeking this position?

With my education, experience, skillset and track record on the County Board, I am uniquely qualified to serve on the Board from my district. In these challenging times, we need an experienced County Board member who does not need on-the-job training. Our County is growing and needs a commonsense, belt-tightening, cost conscious approach to governance. In 2020, Chicago Tribune endorsed me in the State rep. primary race and wrote that Iqbal has “demonstrated the cost-conscious approach to governance”. Daily Herald, also endorsed me in 2020 and wrote that Iqbal has shown that he is “independent, not afraid to ruffle feathers.” As a county resident for37-year, I would like to see the County grow in a sustainable manner. That is why I am seeking reelection.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

Licensed Attorney in Illinois

Licensed Civil and Structural Engineer in Illinois and other states.

M.B.A. in Finance (University of Chicago)

D.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Washington University)

J.D. – NIU, College of Law

LLM – UIC Law, Chicago.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

Kane County is growing, and its infrastructure needs improvements and expansion. The biggest challenge is to secure fundings for our construction projects. The major source of funding should be thru state and federal grants and not thru local taxation. Our Randall Road is an example. It needs more traffic capacity from certain area north of I-90 to Route 20 intersection on the south. In addition, the intersections at Big Timber Road and Highland Avenue need significant upgrade. As a deputy chair of the Kane County Transportation committee, I have taken initiative to have the County perform engineering studies on Randall Road traffic. The next stage is to complete the design phase and then secure grants over $200 million for construction. I believe this is the biggest challenge our district faces, and I am uniquely qualified and willing to undertake it.
