Six Illinois LWV organizations will jointly host a forum on June 2, 2022, for Junaid Ahmed and Raja Krishnamoorthi, the two candidates running in the June 28 Democratic Primary for the U.S. Congress in the 8th District. The forum will be held at 6:30 pm at the Gail Borden Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. The event will be open to the public and live-streamed and recorded for later viewing.  For additional information, check the LWVEA website https://www.lwvelginarea.org/ or the Gail Borden Library website https://www.gailborden.info/.

Carol Grom, Voter Service Chair of the LWV of the Elgin Area, explained, “The forum on June 2nd is for the Democratic Primary candidates only.  Of the five Republican Primary candidates invited to participate in a forum, only one, Phillip Owen Wood, committed to attend, so the Republican forum was canceled.  Chris Dargis declined the invitation due to a scheduling conflict, and the other three, Chad Koppie, Karen Kolodjiez, and Peter Kopsaftis did not respond at all.  The winners of the two Primaries on June 28th will face each other in the November 8th General Election.

Grom added, “The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, issue-oriented organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.  As part of our Voter Education mission, we sponsor forums prior to every election so that candidates seeking to serve the citizens of our communities may present their qualifications and views directly to the voters in an open, unbiased setting.  The LWV does not support or endorse candidates.
