Name: Phil Wood

Position for which you are a candidate: U.S. Congress, from the 8th District

Why are you seeking this position?

To support strong family values and uphold the integrity and reverence of the public office.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

My experience is in non-profit organizational leadership and churches where we delivered real solutions to real problems. At Urban Youth Ministry in Aurora, we provided free, volunteer led after school-programs with tutors and meals at the public schools, free summer programs for needy families, and free sport leagues for at-risk youth. In Elgin, the Wayside Center helped individuals and families by providing a day site and resources for the homeless to wash clothes, access the internet, eat a hot meal, and get the help they need in a safe environment. It helped them and it helped the community and businesses. These were real issues that we addressed because others were not. I have also worked in public health with children and families in crisis at the county health department and have witnessed, firsthand, the cries and fears of the people in our community. I have learned to get a lot done with a little in an urgent manner by connecting people with the right resources. I am not addressing the problems in our community out of theory, but rather from a position of having boots on the ground and witnessing it firsthand.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

To make our communities safe again for everyone.
