Name: Paula Lauer

Position for which you are a candidate: Dundee Township Clerk

Why are you seeking this position?

I hope to leverage my experience in local government, community volunteering, and record keeping for the Dundee Township Clerk’s office. As a former Village and Township Trustee, I have seen firsthand the value of local control and oversight when it comes to meeting taxpayer’s needs. The services Dundee Township provides are customized to our communities’ immediate needs. Less than 1% of our taxes support these programs, and 100% of those dollars stay right here in Dundee Township.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I hold a bachelor of arts degree in business administration, and I’m recently retired from McHenry County College where I worked for 18 years as a Marketing-Promotions Specialist and volunteered as an advocate for affordable education. I served 10 years as a West Dundee Village Trustee and eight years as a Dundee Township Trustee. Both of these elected offices have provided an excellent background and understanding of procedure and protocol for meetings and executive sessions as well as the importance of accurate information and transparency in government. During and since that time, I have focused on social and environmental causes that affect us all in Dundee Township, including wetland protection and passing the Dundee Township Open Space Plan spearheaded by candidates Sue Harney and June Keibler. I’m currently the recording secretary for the Dundee Township Visitor’s Center and Farmer’s Market Advisory Board, a position I’ve held for the last 25+ years. I’m also a member and volunteer of Friends of the Fox River, and I volunteer for the Dundee Township Cares Food Pantry.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

The Township Clerk is a nonvoting position that serves the township by keeping accurate meeting minutes and being the custodian of records. My priority will be to continue the high level of quality and excellence in these areas set by my predecessors and to support the communications and record-keeping needs of the Supervisor’s Office and Township Board.
