Name: Susan Romano

Position for which you are a candidate: Dundee Township Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

I am seeking the position of Dundee Township Trustee because I want to give back to the community I’ve come to call home the past 14 years.   My husband and I have raised our two daughters here and understand how important it is to keep the quality of life we have in our Township.  We are truly blessed to be a part of this community.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have a diverse background that includes a wide range of business roles as well a background in the visual arts and photography.  I have a BFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have worked as a photographer,  retail manager, a purchaser for a retail jewelry chain, marketing professional, digital media manager and most recently, I’ve spent the past 6 years working as a licensed insurance professional for a State Farm agent.

What ties my diverse experience together is that I love the challenge of helping people meet their goals through active listening and problem solving. I have used this drive to head up the creation of new procedures and the formation of an entirely new department within a company to meet the changing times when the production art changed over from printed paper to electronic media. In my current role as an insurance professional I have to be able to quickly come to an understanding of what my customer’s needs are and suggest the products that will best protect them from the perils of an uncertain future.

I also have club experience in the private sector and have sat on the board of the club both as Treasurer and Recording Secretary.  This includes experience working on committees whose primary function is the organization of fundraising and annual events.

I feel my natural drive for learning and problem solving, along with my leadership skills would be an asset to the position.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

I believe my highest priorities would be the following:

  • Work with the board of Trustees and Supervisor to carefully evaluate current services and their efficiency to achieve a balanced budget without the need for additional taxes.
  • Continue to maintain and promote our open spaces for the benefit of both our Dundee Township residents and those who come to visit.
  • More community outreach promoting our open spaces through educational programs that partner with our schools and park district programs. I feel strongly that we need to engage our youth in the appreciation, care and management of our natural spaces and the wildlife they contain.
  • Promote polices that ensure we retain the wonderful heritage of our community. We are a community made up of strong families and good neighbors. Our policies should reflect these core beliefs.
