Name: Veronica Noland

Position for which you are a candidate: School District U-46 Board

Why are you seeking this position?

Since first being elected to the Board in 2013, I have always served as an advocate for parents. I’m particularly interested in issues related to equity and the achievement gap, and specialized student services, especially as they affect our most marginalized families. These concerns have been magnified with the current pandemic.  I am proud of what our district has accomplished, but am also always open to how we can improve access and the diversity of our programming.  Every student deserves the opportunity to excel in their education, and that may not look the same for every student. I am running for reelection in order to continue to guide this district as we meet the diverse needs of our 36,000+ students, their families, and our communities.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

My experience with U-46 includes serving on the Board since 2013, as well as prior participation in the U-46 Hispanic Parent Leadership Institute, and serving  as a Channing Elementary PTO officer and CAC representative.  Outside of U-46, I have worked for over 20 years in association management, including the areas of communications, policy development and governance.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

Currently, the pandemic is forcing the priority of providing safe instruction to all students. As we return to increased in-person instruction, we will also need to determine how best to assist the increased number of students who did not meet expectations in remote learning. In addition, equity and the achievement gap also continue to be a priority of mine.
