Name: Cheryl Anderley

Position for which you are a candidate: West Dundee Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

I am seeking to be re-elected to the position of Trustee because I want to continue be a part of shaping the future of my hometown and there is still more work to be done.   The Downtown Redevelopment isn’t fully completed and we face the challenge of redefining the Spring Hill Mall area.   This will be no small task, however it will be a very exciting undertaking.

We are on the cusp of change here and I want to be sure we stay true to our past while we chart out our future.   We can continue to be a great place to live and raise a family and also support commerce.  We can be a beautiful, quaint small town and also have bustling restaurants and nightlife.  It takes balance, planning and staying true to our convictions.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have worked in supporting roles in both human resources and legal practice.  I have worked for large corporations and small, family owned companies.  I have been a homeowner here for 21 years, but I’ve spent a great deal of time here since I was a child.  I believe the most important qualification is to care about the Village, its residents, and its future.

I’m in the unique position of working part time for Dundee Township and I’ve have had the pleasure of being of service to many of our residents and senior residents.  I’m privy to the outlook and opinions of residents both young and old regarding what they feel works here, what they would like to see in the future, and how they fit in.   This insight helps me be a better Trustee.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

I’m committed to viewing every decision I make, every vote I take through the lens of does this make life better for our residents.   Are we spending the taxpayers’ money judiciously?  Is there a better way so that we can still provide excellent services while keeping taxes in check?

Traffic is a continuing struggle for the Downtown area.   We have taken many steps to improve the situation and we will continue to work to calm the traffic, improve the walkability, and ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists alike.

Our Village is spread out and defined by nine different neighborhoods/developments each with their own set of needs.  If I am re-elected, I intend to continue to bang the drum for more variety of housing for our aging but active baby boomers.  Otherwise, we stand to lose that demographic to other towns and the considerable buying power that will go with them.
