Name: Jason Krabbe
Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin Township Highway Commissioner
Why are you seeking this position?
I am seeking the Highway Commissioner position to better serve the residents of the Road District. I am a lifelong resident of Elgin, and it is a passion of mine to provide a service to my fellow residents. Elgin is a diverse community and having in-city and unincorporated homes is what makes Elgin great and an enticing place to call home.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I have actual township experience. 13+ years with St. Charles Township as crew leader and 5+ with Elgin Township as foreman. I have worked on the levy and budget with the current road commissioner for the past 5 years. I have applied and managed grants for the township. I know every aspect of the job from paving, ditch maintenance, signs, culvert replacement, and over 20+ years of snow plowing. I have managed numerous resurfacing projects. I have 25+ years of operating all types of equipment and maintenance. I have worked with City of Elgin, The Village of South Elgin and Kane County.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
If elected my highest priorities would be, but not limited to, doing more with less. I would continue to keep the levy as low as possible and maintain a balanced budget and create a road resurfacing outline to maximize the life expectancy of the roads in the road district. Working in the field with the crew to make sure work is performed at a high standard and being able to deal with real time issues that may arise is important to me. I would be available to residents and respond to their needs and concerns in a timely matter. Also, keeping the residents up to date on construction projects and work being done by the township by posting on the website and social media outlets is something I would provide. And continuing to work with the surrounding entities to provide the best possible service would all be of priority.
