Name: Alejandro Lopez
Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin Township Trustee
Why are you seeking this position?
My wife and I have been residents and have owned our home in Elgin since 2004 after living in Milwaukee for a stretch. I have been involved in the community for years, from coaching youth football and wrestling, to providing high school students with seminars on Architecture and attending career days, both at the high school and higher education levels. I currently serve as one of the directors on two non-profit boards – American Institute of Architects Northeast Illinois and Invest Aurora. I have also been recently appointed to the City of Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission. We are now “empty nesters” and are seeking ways to serve our community.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
As an Architect, I am an expert in infrastructure. This uniquely qualifies me to help make sound decisions in our road district and building assessments to continuously improve our property values and keep making Elgin Township a great place to raise a family or live out the sunset of your life.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
My goals and objectives as township trustee will be based on two simple words – Hard Work. I will work hard to analyze ways to streamline processes and try to find ways to remove red tape with the goal of saving expenses. My elderly parents are also Elgin residents and not unlike many of us and our parents, I care deeply about their wellbeing. I will try to be an advocate for this sometimes-neglected section of our community by plugging in and visiting with them to hear their concerns and bring them to the table. I will provide as much real-time information as it is available to me for our seniors and other vulnerable citizens with regards to the COVID-19 vaccination, so they are in the best-informed position as the vaccine becomes available.
