Name: Cheryl Alopogianis

Position for which you are a candidate: West Dundee Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

Faith, family & community are the three most important factors I live by. I love the community I live in and want to make sure that our levels of service are at the highest level. Many economic challenges are ahead for communities and I will work to ensure that planning for the future is a high priority. Currently West Dundee has the lowest effective tax rate for the region, and I plan on keeping it that way.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have been extremely involved with the communities I’ve lived in for the past 25 years in the Northern Kane County area. I served on the first citizens police academy in Algonquin, which gave me a better awareness of things happening in the community. I was the first PTO president of Westfield Community School in Algonquin. My board and I worked tirelessly during my two year term making sure that the school functioned like it had been there for years. The first year we held an arts & craft fair, fun fair, held a Spring & Fall fundraiser, created spirit wear, held an ice cream social, had the mural painted and so much more. I am a member of the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce serving as the Chairperson of the Ambassadors and sit on several committees. I helped form our HOA at our subdivision Grand Pointe Meadows serving 7 years as the secretary of the board. I am currently on the Planning and Zoning Commission for West Dundee, previously serving on the Appearance Review Commission. I also am the Events and Fundraising coordinator for Hoof Woof & Meow Animal rescue in Gilberts.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

Keeping taxes low,  allowing people to keep more of their hard earned money. Enhance the Village economy,  by planning for the future so that property values are  protected. Public safety,  making sure they continue to be at a top notch level to maintain the safety of families and community.
