Name: Greg Lieser

Position for which you are a candidate: South Elgin Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

I have a long history of volunteering in the community.  My desire to serve others and maintain excellence in municipal government are the main reasons I seek re-election.  What we, the Village Board, oversee affects the daily lives of our citizens and it is an honor for me to serve at this level.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have an accounting degree from NIU, passed the CPA examination and had a 37 year career in the banking industry.  I have lived South Elgin since 1990.  I have served on the Village Board since 2016.

My history of volunteerism and leadership roles on local non-profit boards lead to my appointment, then re-election, to the Village Board.  I was President of the S.E. Economic Development Board and was a member of the Planning & Zoning Commission prior to becoming a Trustee.  I continue to serve (since 2005) on the Boys & Girls Club Board as Chairman of a $4.2 million capital campaign to open a new 20,000 s.f. clubhouse in South Elgin that will serve 250 kids daily.  I previously served as Treasurer, then President of the B&G Club Board.  I also currently serve as Treasurer of RISE America, a racial justice board that promotes diversity, inclusion and equity in South Elgin.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

To maintain excellence in governance, continued redevelopment within our TIF districts,  McLean Blvd. reconstruction, responsible development of vacant land, and to bring more social services to the Village.  The Board and Village Staff are committed to financial discipline such as balanced budgets and strong reserves.  I also focus on debt.  Even though the Village is not highly leveraged, I am committed to paying down debt and would like to hand-off  a debt free municipal government to future generations.  Maintaining roads, high quality parks and other infrastructure without borrowing or increasing taxes is a high priority for me.   I have a vision for a more engaged community, having more citizens involved in serving others, and developing future leaders who aspire to serve and lead our community.  Bringing additional social services to the Village, like the proposed Boys & Girls Club, is a good step in this direction.
