Name: Dr. David J Scarpino

Position for which you are a candidate: School District 300 Board

Why are you seeking this position?

I want to continue to champion our District, students and employees. I also want to continue to work with our superintendent and fellow board members to deliver high quality educational opportunities for all children so they can be college or career ready upon graduation. I believe my high visibility in our schools and classrooms, combined with my 40+ years in the education field and unique abilities and passion about education make me the ideal candidate. I am also a community member and tax payer in D300 and believe it is very important that the taxpayers get the best educational value for their tax money.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I am the former D300 Associate Superintendent of Schools and Hampshire Elementary School Principal. I have worked 40+ years in the education field. My positions have included being a superintendent of schools, associate superintendent of schools, elementary principal, high school assistant principal, classroom teacher, and mentor for administrators. I have extensive experience with preparing and implementing budgets, contract negotiations, referenda, employee discipline, parent concerns, school construction, boundary changes, student issues, curriculum development and evaluations, and incorporating charter schools into a public school district, and all other areas of public education.

I hold a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a Master’s Degree from National Louis University, a Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

  • Continue to work collaboratively with the superintendent and all board members for the betterment of the students in our school district.
  • Continue to strengthen our relationship with Elgin Community College and the Dual Credit Program so H.S. students can achieve their high school diploma AND their associate degree upon high school graduation at no cost to their parents.
  • Continue to expand the Pathway Programs in our high schools.
  • Continue my work on the Construction Facilities Oversite Committee (CFOC) and the Finance Committee to insure the construction of our newest school will be on-time and on-budget.
  • Continue my work on the Boundary Committee to insure a well thought out boundary for our new school.
  • Continue to visit every school every year and as many classrooms as possible in order to see firsthand what is taking place in our schools. During my school visits I will continue to confer with students and teachers about their experiences in their schools and classrooms. Afterwards, post pictures on my Facebook page so parents can see their child’s school in action.
