Name: Anthony Ortiz

Position for which you are a candidate: Elgin City Council

Why are you seeking this position?

I am campaigning for Elgin City Council because I want to help move Elgin forward by bringing wider city hall transparency, reinforce public safety, and help bring more programs for our seniors and veterans. My entire adult life I have been a public worker giving back to my country (US Marines) and our county (Kane). Now, I want to give back to our beautiful city.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I was born and raised in Elgin and graduating from Larkin High School. After high school I joined the US Marines. Some traits the Marines taught me is leadership, hard work, and commitment to do what’s right even if it’s not the popular choice. I have a bachelors from Loyola University Chicago in criminal justice and criminology and my paralegal from DePaul University (Chicago). Currently a supervisor at the Kane County States Attorney’s Office overseeing support staff in courtrooms across all our divisions. With all these experiences combine I will bring a vast array of knowledge and fortitude to serve our city and community.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

Some of the top priorities I will have is create a great working relationship with the current council members to help bring more veteran and senior programs, reinforced public safety, and wider city hall transparency. Also, want to make sure all tax dollars are spent in the most efficient way possible.
