Name: Jamie Mosser

Position for which you are a candidate:

Kane County States Attorney

Why are you seeking this position?

As a former prosecutor and strong member of this community, I am uniquely qualified to bring criminal justice reform to Kane County. I am familiar with how the office currently works and what needs to be changed. Having prosecuted cases, I know that we have not give enough attention to diverting individuals with mental health or drug addiction issues out of the jail system. The highest priority of the State’s Attorney is to keep the community safe. Strengthening our diversion programs, bringing in new and innovative programs, and being proactive in our community is the way to keep our community safe.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I was a prosecutor in New Orleans for 2 years assigned to the juvenile division. I was a prosecutor in Kane County for 10 years where I worked in many divisions including DV, DUI, Drug Rehabilitative Court, Special Prosecution Unit, and General Felonies. I have tried hundreds of cases as a prosecutor along with participated in hundreds of hearings. I have supervised attorneys and support staff within the office. I have worked in the Kane County community as a prosecutor, private attorney, and legal aid attorney for 15 years. I have volunteered for may organizations whose goal is to help the community. As a prosecutor, I have helped to create a DV prosecution protocol and DV police protocol. I have provided many community presentations both as a prosecutor and a private attorney.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

First, to create a screening division to provide consistency in charging decisions and bond call. Second, this same screening division will also be charged with working with the community and the police to identify and divert individuals with mental health and drug addiction issues directly into treatment. We will work with the police and the community to create a program that provides resources to non-violent individuals to get treatment and have the skills to be productive members of our society. Third, we will also create a community prosecution unit to get the office back into the community to provide transparency and be proactive in our work for the community. These prosecutors will be responsible for attending meetings and providing community presentations.
