Name: Greg Elsbree

Position for which you are a candidate:

Kane County Board Chairman

Why are you seeking this position?

The role of the Board Chairperson is to facilitate ideas and discussion between district representatives, county employees and community residents in an environment of trust. Currently I believe this type of dialogue is not taking place delaying planning for and implementation of programs. Our system of government is designed to give people a voice and a place at the table. I’m seeking this position to foster conversations about and act towards responsible growth, sustainability and meeting the service needs of county residents.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

For 6 years I have served as the Secretary Treasurer for Teamsters Local 179 with responsibility for a budget of $3,000,000, negotiating fair wages/benefits for workers and advocating for projects to bring economic development. I serve on the City of Aurora Planning Commission tasked with making recommendations on development projects with input from municipal, business and community interests. I participate in Fox Valley Building Trades (Vice President), Will Grundy Building Trades, Three Rivers Construction Alliance (Treasurer) and our Labor Management Cooperation Committee. These organizations work to set area standards for wages and work safety, advocate for the use of local contractors and facilitate shared goals for economic development.

What will be your highest priorities if elected?

Rebuilding trust and the ability to have open conversation and debate during county board meetings is a priority from the start of my term. I am committed to meeting with county residents in their communities to learn about local concerns. Issues I am committed to having conversation about include livable wage jobs, maintaining our green spaces and promoting green initiatives within the county and ensuring that all county residents have access to health and mental health services through private and public resources.
