Name: Carolyn Schofield
Position for which you are a candidate:
Illinois Representative District 66
Why are you seeking this position?
I’m running for State Representative in the 66th District because the people of Southern McHenry County and Northern Kane County deserve a dedicated advocate and an effective leader.
The current Representative promised to go to Springfield and deliver results, especially in the area of property tax relief. In his three years he has not written even one bill that he has been able to usher into law on any topic, including tax relief. Rather than building coalitions, he has burnt bridges and rendered himself ineffective.
I offer the people of the 66th District an opportunity for change and progress. I have a proven record of success in a variety of areas and will take those skills to Springfield where I will work tirelessly as an advocate for the people in McHenry and Kane Counties.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I have been actively involved in many diverse community organizations, governmental bodies, school groups, and youth activities. I have served in every capacity from volunteer to executive board and everything in between.
As as a McHenry County Board Member my record of success includes permanently lowering the McHenry County tax levy beginning in 2020 by over 11%. This permanently reduces taxes for McHenry County taxpayers by $10 million dollars.
I recognize the connection between solid infrastructure and economic prosperity. As a member of the Executive Board of Directors for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, I helped adopt a regional plan that will boost our local economy and ensure reliable infrastructure so businesses can grow and thrive.
What will be your highest priorities if elected?
High property taxes and pension debt are two obvious high priorities. However, to achieve results we must elect representatives who can work together towards solutions on key issues in Springfield. Successful legislators build relationships, establish trust, and respect their colleagues- even when their opinions on issues clash. In the 66th District we currently have an individual who refuses to work with local municipalities on their issues, and rails against not just Democrats, but also members from his own caucus. Building consensus can make real progress in addressing the state’s financial problems, improve the jobs climate, and solve the pension crisis. Only when we work together will we be able to provide real and sustaining property tax relief for Illinoisans.
