Name: Steve DeAtley
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Sleepy Hollow Trustee
Why are you seeking this position?
I am seeking this position because I care about the community I live in. Sleepy Hollow has a lot to offer people of all ages and is a great environment in which to raise a family. I moved to Sleepy Hollow in June 2001. What brought us here was the lifestyle and the atmosphere of the Village and its residents. I know this is where people really care about one another. Our house was broken into several years ago and we had so many people reach out to us to offer assistance: friends, neighbors, and people we hadn’t even met before. This is the caring environment I want to pass along to the next generations of families moving into the Village.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I believe the best background for this position is the desire to move things forward for the good of the Village and its residents. I have served on boards and committees in business and civic organizations from Tri-Cities Little League and the Sleepy Hollow Service Club to owning my own business. I also believe you have to be a good listener and someone who can look at all sides of issue and understand them and then use a common sense approach make the best decision.
What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
I think the most important issue is the need for financial funding in a small village that doesn’t have a lot of resources coming in. I think we need to be creative on how we fund things. Can we work with other villages to possibly consolidate services or leverage our buying power? I think we need to approach discussions with an open mind to explore these issues with a focus on what is best for the residents of the village.
Will you attend the March 7th Sleepy Hollow Candidate Forum? Yes, I will attend the forum
