Name: Carol Rauschenberger

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Elgin Mayor

Why are you seeking this position?

Research says that successful cities are “intentional,” in other words, they have a clear vision and a plan on how to evolve. Elgin needs a bolder vision to leverage its unique assets to attract businesses and residents alike. That takes pro-active planning, leadership and community consensus. I bring a different leadership style and perspective to the community. As mayor I will listen and learn from the citizens to proactively solve problems. I have six areas of focus that are described in my website www.carolforelgin.com . I have a leadership style that is inclusive and collaborative bringing people toward a goal. I pledge to fair taxing and to utilizing our limited resources to maximize results.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I was born and grew up in Elgin. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA. My work experience includes medical equipment sales, telecommunications marketing and Occupational Therapy. Through my work. I have lived in NYC, Michigan, Europe and Asia. I returned to Elgin over 12 years ago. I was involved in every community where I lived. I was a Village Trustee in Chelsea, MI and was elected to the Elgin Township here. I was elected to Elgin City Council 6 years ago. This wide variety of living experiences gives me a greater perspective and my work in business and government affords me an expansive view of municipal problems and opportunities.

What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

Elgin is increasingly taking part in a regional competition for skilled workers and high quality companies to support our economic vibrancy. The city has various roles to play in this endeavor, one of them being to define, reflect, deliver a positive “image” of the community. Managing “image” is a key component of any economic strategy plan. This challenge includes reflecting upon our reputation, defining our assets, redefining our identity and creating an image (or images) that reflects this great city. Another challenge is to build pride within our own community. Elgin will need to evolve as a city that reflects our positive image – more arts, more culture, better schools, safe streets etc.
