Name: Ryan Weiss

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

ECC Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

I am seeking to retain my position as ECC Trustee for three reasons. First, I am passionate about ECC, the success of our students, and the future of our community. Second, I have several connections to ECC, as an alumnus, a former student trustee, and father of a high school student currently taking dual enrollment classes at ECC. Third, I am concerned about the impact of rising college costs and debt loads on families in Illinois, and I believe ECC is uniquely positioned to enable students to obtain certificates, degrees, or take individual classes at a reasonable cost.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

Elgin Community College provided me with a great foundation to complete a bachelors degree in Chemistry and a MBA in Finance. These educational opportunities enabled me to have an outstanding career with a global chemical company, including living in Asia for almost 5 years, and to lead teams across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and North America. I am also an entrepreneur who has founded 3 companies, which all continue to grow successfully. I believe my experiences in finance, organization leadership, entrepreneurship, global cultural diversity, and consulting put me in a unique position to represent our community in the governance of Elgin Community College.

What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

Our greatest challenge as a board is to enable our diverse student body to succeed and live up to their true potential.

Will you attend the March 19th Dundee Candidate Forum? No, I am not able to attend
