Name: Kathleen Mahony

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

East Dundee Trustee

Why are you seeking this position?

Our homes and the communities we live in are the biggest investment we make culturally, personally and financially. I want to maintain or improve our community culturally and personally, while at the least maintaining and ideally improving our home values. After 6 years, being appointed to the Village Board and Planning & Zoning Committee across 3 administrations, I have found my voice and most importantly my ear in dealing with adversity, change and challenges from residents, board members, developers in moving forward a vision of what East Dundee can be to residents and visitors.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I moved to the village 17 years ago, and quickly became involved in a group with neighbors challenging a development in Carpentersville to preserve our way of life and property values. I have invested my time in the village government, being appointed to the planning & zoning commission for 2 years and the village board for 4 years. I have loved the sense of community and local product I found at the Saturday market and became a member of the Dundee Township Visitors Board that runs the market and staffs the depot for bike path visitors. There is a learning curve in understanding how to most effectively work with the board within the legislative process, the base of knowledge from my past six years will serve the residents well.

What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

Balancing new commercial or residential development with the needs of the existing businesses and residents. New development is key to diversifying our revenue stream to cover village services and keep property taxes in check. The biggest challenges all communities face are the new requirements for funding of pensions, because of new actuarial calculations and state requirements. We have a road map is in place to meet those requirements. East Dundee has major public infrastructure services that are run by the village which is unusual for a village this size. This puts the cost of providing these services within the villages control, however we have capacity we need to market to build economy of scale and keep service prices fair.

Will you attend the March 12th Dundee Candidate Forum? Yes, I will attend the forum
