Name: Baldemar Lopez
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Elgin City Council
Why are you seeking this position?
I am seeking this position because I want to make sure working families have a voice on the Elgin City Council. I have dedicated most of my career to advocating and representing working families as an organizer, advocate, and attorney. I want to bring my education and experience to invest in Elgin.
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I was born in Elgin and attended U-46 schools and participated as a Student Trustee during my time at Elgin Community College. Being raised by a single mother my mom taught me the importance of hard work. I have been with my wife since high school and married for 13 years and have two amazing daughters. I have an Associates from Elgin Community College, BA in Political Science from the University of Illinois (Chicago), and a law degree from the University of Denver Law School. I am a practicing attorney who owns his own law firm, which represents working families. My past experience has exposed me to government budgeting, the policy-making process, and the issues working families face.
What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
My greatest challenge if elected would be making sure that the city’s budget meets the needs of the taxpayers. I am prepared to work through consensus building with members of the City Council and community to address our community development, infrastructure and public safety needs; provide the services that taxpayers, seniors and those most vulnerable need.
