Name: Herb Gross

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Gail Borden Library Board

Why are you seeking this position?

I have a love of libraries since receiving my first “CHILD” library card at age 5 in Manhatten N.Y. In Elgin we have an award-winning library, in recognition for the many outstanding programs we offered the community during the term of the present board.. My goals would be to continue the library as an innovative resource for our community while continuing our per capita expense as low as possible.

What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have attended most Trustee Training sessions in the 11 years since first elected. I have always voted to increase the relevance of the library to our community. I volunteered as a library greeter for more than six years, as well as taking photographs and acting as a docent.

What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

So far the State of Illinois has not changed its support of our library system. Never the less income problems of our customers have impacted our library by increased scrutiny of the taxes they pay including those of our library. Continuing our extremely low per capita expenses while continuing our award winning services and programs will be the greatest challenge if reelected.

Will you attend the March 21st Elgin Candidate Forum? Yes, I will attend the forum
