NAME: Ron Hain
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Kane County Sheriff
1. Why are you seeking this position?
We currently face many serious public safety issues in Kane County. From a rising violent crime rate to an unprecedented opioid epidemic, and constant recidivism in our jail population. Throughout my career at the Sheriff’s Office, I have applied innovative approaches to enhance our services and adapt to the dynamic and diverse needs of our community. I have a strong platform of innovative solutions to our myriad of current issues and I have the leadership ability and experience to focus our professional staff in a new, progressive direction.
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
The role of a Sheriff, created almost two centuries ago in America, is to protect the community from outside dangers and serve the varying needs of their public. During my career, I have seized over 4,000 pounds of dangerous drugs and hundreds of criminally possessed firearms from international criminal organizations that create 80 to 90 percent of our crime. Meanwhile, I worked to create a jobs program to link citizens with poor backgrounds to employers who are willing to hire them. Based on my experience, I plan to make this program a functioning element of the county jail with no additional cost to our tax payers. I will expand my already-strong relationship with our schools and public health partners to ensure a better, safer County.
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
My greatest challenge as Sheriff will be reversing the effects of the opioid epidemic and enhancing police-community relations as an example for the entire nation to follow.
