NAME: Chris Kious
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Kane County Board District (23)
1. Why are you seeking this position?
I want to help. My candidacy is the culmination of several years of political activism and now it is my desire to be an active participant in the future of our county and our country. I hope to contribute to the policies and administration of Kane County in a positive way to ensure responsible development, sensible management of the budget, and preservation of the natural resources and beauty here in this beautiful county.
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
If elected, I will bring a broad spectrum of life experiences to the Kane County Board. I grew up in a farming community where I learned the ethic of hard work and the value of protecting natural resources and the environment. My experience as a business owner in a service industry, as an employee in manufacturing and sales, and as project manager help me understand the perspective of workers and small business owners. My background in science has given me a good understanding of research and critical analysis of data. As an active citizen, my experience as a campaign volunteer and community organizer have given me the opportunity to motivate and develop coalitions to accomplish political goals
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
While canvassing my neighbors in our district, the most frequent concerns I hear are high taxes and the feeling of not being represented. If elected I plan to be an active board member who regularly connects with my constituents. I plan to equitably tax residents and distribute those dollars to provide the important services that we expect: responsible development, efficient transportation, environmental quality, community safety and assistance to neighbors in need. I know that working with fellow board members to set our budget will be the biggest challenge, but I’ll work to ensure that District 23 gets the community we deserve.
