NAME: Donald P. DeWitte
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Illinois Senate District (33)
1. Why are you seeking this position?
With over 20 years of successful municipal elected experience and background, and an additional 5 years of regional involvement with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) my political skill set is a well rounded and well established track record required to make the hard decisions in Springfield that need to be made.
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I was an Alderman in St. Charles for 12 years from 1993-2005, I served as Mayor from 2005-2013, and I served as Director representing Kane County for the RTA. All of these positions have exposed me to the processes and procedures of the doing the people’s business in Springfield, and have served as increasing levels of training for the position I have been appointed to as Senator, and the re-election I seek for the same office.
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
To balance the need for transformative change to the State’s ongoing budget crisis, while maintaining the balance of providing the necessary services that state government is counted on to provide our residents. The answers are not always revenue enhancements. There are two sides to every balance sheet. The process of digging the state’s debt deeper and deeper must stop. We must put the shovel down to start reducing our pension and payables’ indebtedness.
