NAME: Dan Ugaste
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Illinois House District (65)
1. Why are you seeking this position?
The State of Illinois will be insolvent if drastic changes aren’t made in tax policy, out of control spending, borrowing habits and business regulations. The income tax rate was temporarily increased in 2011, raising significant revenue that the state did not use to pay down its bills or substantially reduce its massive debt, but instead increased spending and made the problem worse. In 2017, Mike Madigan and his enablers increased the income tax again, and now it is permanent! Illinois government has a spending addiction that can only be cured through austerity measures. Providing Illinois government more money through higher taxes is beyond foolish. I am running to stop Mike Madigan and his enablers from ruining our once great state.
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
Like many Illinois residents, my background is that I am a homeowner who would like to see his family flourish in every aspect of their life, including financially. I would like to have my children and grandchildren remain near my community with abundant opportunity for a quality education and a fulfilling career. That is my motivation to use my knowledge and skill as a business owner and attorney to help change the laws that are preventing the goals of many Illinois families. In addition to my professional qualifications, I have experience in state government by having served as a member of the Illinois Workers Compensation Medical Fee Advisory Board and as a Technical Advisor to Governor’s Office on Workers Comp Reform.
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
Trying to get a majority or supermajority of the other 176 members of the General Assembly to agree that we need to put the long term interests of the people of Illinois over the short term political interests of individual politicians or special interest groups.
Will you attend the 10/11 Elgin Candidate Forum? Yes, I will attend the forum
