NAME: Anna Moeller

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Illinois House District (43)

1. Why are you seeking this position?

It has been an honor to represent the 43rd District since 2014. Since taking office, I have worked to find common ground with legislators on both sides of the aisle on the issues that affect residents in my district and throughout Illinois. I have fought for and will continue to fight for (among other issues): A balanced state budget sustainably funds education and social services; Lowering the burden of property taxes on disabled veterans, seniors and middle-class families; enacting a more equitable school funding formula; Closing the gender wage gap; and pension and good government reform by sponsoring and passing legislation to eliminate pensions for part-time elected officials.

2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

My top priority is to be accessible to the constituents I represent and ensuring that their voices are heard in Springfield. I continuously walk door to door throughout the community, hold regular town hall meetings, host informational events for residents like my annual senior fair and advisory committees and monthly coffee stops. Furthermore, improving state government requires the state’s elected officials to lead by example. That’s why one of my first official actions after taking office was to reject a taxpayer-fund pension and healthcare benefits offered to legislators. Finally, in order to end the gridlock in Springfield, I strive to work with colleagues on bipartisan solutions and through compromise.

3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

The budget stalemate inflicted great harm on the state’s finances. Tough and disciplined choices will be required in order to put the state’s financial future on a sustainable path. In addition, partisanship and political polarization are very high both in general society and within state government. It is important that we transcend politics and make concerted efforts to work in a bipartisan fashion to fix the problems facing our state. If re-elected in November, I am committed to doing that.
