NAME: Carole Cheney
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
US Congress District (6)
1. Why are you seeking this position?
I’m running for Congress to give a voice back to the people of Illinois’ Sixth District. Peter Roskam has lost touch with his community, and has put the Donald Trump agenda ahead of the needs of the people he is supposed to be serving. It is time for the concerns of our community to come before political careers and personal agendas. Too often, people say government isn’t working. I have helped make government work and want to keep doing so. Today, government isn’t working for the people in Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. It is time to replace Peter Roskam with someone who is focused on serving the interests of this community, not special interests. It is time to bring back faith in our government..
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I am the only candidate with experience serving constituents in a congressional office, and with the professional experience to successfully challenge Peter Roskam. As Congressman Bill Foster’s District Chief of Staff, I focused on trying to make government work for the people again. I was proud to head a team that helped bring millions of dollars back to the district that could be reinvested in the community, and helped constituents receive the benefits they’ve earned ‐‐ whether it was helping veterans receive their disability payments, or helping seniors recover overdue social security benefits. We worked to ensure the voices of the community were heard. We met with constituents, listened to them, and delivered results
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
Congress is being strangled by partisanship and the influence of wealthy special interests. Unfortunately, the extreme polarization has resulted in repeated stalemates even in matters that should not be controversial, such as funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Sadly, it is the
American people who pay the price from the repeated gridlock ‐‐ whether it is the failure to pass a budget, or the inability to have a rational discussion about healthcare. Democrats and Republicans need to work together to pass legislation that supports and grows the middle class.
