NAME: Jim Patrician
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Kane County Board District (23)
1. Why are you seeking this position?
The two term representative from District 23 is not seeking re-election, so there will be a vacancy. Algonquin, an important
community in northern Kane (and southern McHenry) County will not have a representative once Maggie Auger retires.,
I want to be a voice for Algonquin, as well as the whole north end region in District 23, which has numerous complex road, bridge, and transportation issues to address. As the current Chairman of the Algonquin Planning Commission, a position Ms. Auger once held, I have unique and specific relevant knowledge and experience to represent this area effectively on the Kane County Board from Day One.
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
Besides my volunteer service as Chair of the Algonquin Planning Commission, professionally I am a Benefits Consultant. One of the most complicated and expensive areas of county government are all of the different health and benefit plans that are negotiated with the different bargaining units within county government. I would use my expertise to make sure that both the county employees, and the taxpayers, get the very best benefit plans at the best cost. The Longmeadow Bridge Parkway is an important issue in our community. While the decision to build has been made, and cannot be changed at this stage, I will be a tireless fighter to make sure that the project is on time, on budget, and with the least negative impacts on residents nearby.
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
The County Board has maintained a property tax freeze for five consecutive years, I will work with the Chairman and the Board to continue that freeze for the next four years by using fiscal discipline and seeking non-tax revenues (like user fees) to balance expenses. The across the board 3.6% cuts were well designed and implemented in the last budget year and we always need to look to that sort of fiscally conservative mindset.
Will you attend the 2/27 Dundee candidate forum? Yes, I will attend the forum
