NAME: Terry Hunt
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Kane County Auditor
-
Why are you seeking this position?
My name is Terry Hunt. In 2012 I was elected to serve as Kane County Auditor based upon the combination of my education, experience and a specific multi-point plan to improve the service provided by that office to our community. I campaigned on three key principles that would serve as the foundation for my administration – integrity, independence and innovation. During my first term as County Auditor I have followed those principles to improve the transparency, accountability and accessibility of county financial information. I kept every promise I made to the people of Kane County. While I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my first term, there is still more work to be done. I am running for re-election, and I am asking for your support to continue to work on your behalf.
-
What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
I earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an Accounting major and Finance minor. I have over 40 years’ experience as an auditor and accountant, including my specific experience serving as the Kane County Auditor now into my 4th year. I was previously the Chief Financial Officer for a multi-state manufacturing company for over 14 years, and prior to that I worked for over 3 years at a regional CPA firm. My auditing experience ranges from manufacturing and retail business, to governmental entities and bank examinations. By the end of my first term I will also have earned over 100 hours of continuing professional education credits specific to my role as County Auditor.
-
What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
The greatest challenge if re-elected will be to build upon the improvements I have made during my first term in the areas of transparency, accountability and accessibility – all while continuing to stay within the budget set by the County Board. Some of my plans are (1) to continue to develop the Kane County OpenGov financial transparency platform. (2) Typically most of our audit projects are either to ensure compliance or to analyze operations. I hope to add a third component to our comprehensive audit plan, which would be to perform audits designed specifically to identify alternatives where funds could potentially be put to a better use. (3) My office will also be collaborating with our Information Technologies Department to develop and implement an independent Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Test on our county networks.
