League of Women Voters of Illinois has advocated for HB2040 Private Detention Facility Moratorium Act that would bar state and local governments from contracting with private prison companies to run any kind of detention center in Illinois. We even participated in an LWVIL Time For Action on April 4th. This bill is consistent with League of Women Voters of the U.S. positions on Equality of Opportunity and Immigration, that all persons should receive fair treatment under the law and that immigration policies should promote reunification of immediate families; meet economic, business and employment needs; and be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises.
