Paper ballots are hack-proof. It's time to bring them back. We like to tell citizens that every vote counts. But actually, no vote counts unless it is counted. Very worrisome.

Counties with a history of voter discrimination are purging voters from the rolls at higher rates The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, paving the way for less oversight over local administration of elections. In the wake of the tragic mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton over the weekend, the League of Women Voters of the U.S. joins the The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and other partner organizations, including Voto Latino and NAACP Legal Defense Fund, in condemning white supremacy and demanding real reform to combat hate: “The tragedies of this past weekend represent a confluence of two dangerous forces: the rise of white supremacist terror and our federal government’s inaction on commonsense gun safety. Both deserve sweeping and consequential action by our elected leaders. Every person in our country should feel safe while shopping, enjoying a night out with friends, attending school or religious services, or engaging in any other lawful activity. Instead, white supremacist violence against communities of color continues to escalate under the administration’s watch. “When the president and his enablers routinely denigrate and dehumanize certain communities, he gives permission to white supremacists to commit horrific violence — violence that is at a level unprecedented in more than 20 years. None of this is acceptable. None of this is normal. Our organizations are united in saying that Members of Congress can no longer look away as communities of color are murdered with impunity. We must all unite and demand accountability.” #Unite

Voto Latino RALLY TO END GUN VIOLENCE AND WHITE SUPREMACY: We are LIVE at the White House to demand the Trump administration and Congress fix the nation’s broken gun laws, denounce acts of mass violence by white supremacists, and cease racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies coming from the White House. Coalition partners are also demanding Mitch McConnell reconvene the Senate to pass HR8, a Bipartisan Background Checks Act that was passed by the House five months ago. via act.tv More info @ https://ift.tt/2OGkZKO Automated post from League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area - https://ift.tt/2dKZy4V August 07, 2019 at [...]
