NAME: Ron Hain

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Kane County Sheriff

1.  Why are you seeking this position?

We currently face many serious public safety issues in Kane County. From a rising violent crime rate to an opioid epidemic, and constant recidivism by our incarcerated population. Throughout my career at Kane County Sheriff’s Office, I have applied innovative approaches to public safety concerns to adapt to the dynamic needs of our community. I have presented cutting edge solutions to the myriad issues we currently face, and I have the leadership ability to focus our professional staff in a new, constructive direction.

2.  What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

The role of a Sheriff, created almost two centuries ago, is to protect their community from outside dangers and serve the varying needs of the population. During my career, I have seized over 4,000 pounds of dangerous drugs and hundreds of firearms from international criminal organizations that create 80 to 90 percent of our crime. I created a jobs program to provide employment to felons, which I will implement as part of our jail. I commit to working with schools to support and educate our youth and I will provide continued outreach to our low‐income communities to build police‐community relations.

3.  What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

My greatest challenge as Sheriff will be reversing the effects of the opioid epidemic and enhancing
police‐community relations as an example for the entire nation to follow.
